Common Rigging Methods For Carp & Cat Fishing

Tight line Rig For Catfish And Carp

A tight line is a fishing rig that give the angler control of bottom to bait distance and also allows the angler to quickly pick up on the slightest of nibbles.

Start the rig by simply threading a bit hook onto you fishing line, once the hook is at a desired length from the end of your line, place a splitshot below the hook to keep it from moving any closer to the end of the line than desired.

Now tie a barrel sinker to the end of your line, just make sure you use a weight that will be sufficient enough to stick the bait to the bottom without it moving. There you go, theres a simple tight line rig perfect for fishing carp and catfish.

Slip Weight Rig For Carp And Catfish

The slip weight rig is one that I use most often when carp or cat fishing. Its a very effective rig which allows a fish to take line without feeling the weight of the sinker. Chances are if you have been carp or cat fishing for any amount of time, you’ve used this rig!

For this fishing rig we start by threading a barrel, walking or swivel sinker onto our line, we next take a double eyed swivel and tie it to the very end of the line. The next step will require you to have some spare leader line on hand. Take a length of that line, usually a foot or two in length and tie it onto the opposite end of the swivel in which you just tied to. Now tie a hook to the end of your leader and you have the perfect slip rig for carp and cat fishing.

These are by far two of the easiest and most common fishing rigs for catching carp and catfish. there are a couple others though I am going to save them for another day. They are more advanced and will require images to completely understand and pull off, so stay tuned for my upcoming, Advanced Rigging Methods For Carp And Cat Fishing article.
